PIP Health Lists - neck-back-shoulder together or separate? Ear issues separate? was created by MuttonJeff
As well as other health conditions I have suffered for 30 years following severe whiplash and lower back injuries. Until recently It's actually been less troublesome for last decade and I was fitter at 50 than 30 when I was on NSAIDs and painkillers for nearly 4 years after the accident, I still have copies of medical reports confirming that the residual problems will almost certainly remain and disadvantage me on the job market for any physical work. I had headaches from neck pain and hospital physio just before the accident!
I'm awaiting a review in December with MSK doctor and my GP is asking to review my Kyphosis and whether MRI is recommended. I have a report few years ago stating my shoulder injury is chronic, due to scar tissue restrictions. And original reports identified mild Kyphosis possible childhood Scheuermann's disease, but nothing confirmed on basic x-ray apart from some lumbar disc generation is noted on GP record, however I understand this disease requires side on x-rays to diagnose so it may explain my Kyphosis.
So, should I just do one condition for spinal problems lower and upper back and include my neck, and how I've had to manage this and now at age 60 again causing issues? Or should I list back, neck, shoulder separately and mention RTA in each? I am waking with pins and needles in my arms and upper spine and neck pain worsened recently hence referral to MSK.
I've severe hearing loss both ears so that's been listed I currently have a bed recurrence of ear infections on 2nd course of antibiotics as I've had middle ear surgeries so vulnerable to damage, I've had vertigo and vomiting which i had forgotten to mention, I've had episodes of vertigo without any obvious ear symptoms which GP explained they can't medicate other than I have a nausea medication, so I have only got consultations listed for this on my record when I've had it very severely and seen GP, otherwise I have to manage it. Thinking now I should list Labyrinthitis as a separate condition because of the mobility issues it causes, is this correct please? I'm also awaiting x-rays results on my foot which suffered injuries in past and I believe has become arthritic in the same ways my thumbs have, but because I push through pain believing it was just still tendinitis diagnosed 6 years ago it's only just been diagnosed following x-ray.
I've managed to get a 2 week extension on my PIP submission deadline due to being ill with ear infection, but I don't think my foot x-ray will come back in time, in the past I have run half marathons but had to stop running in 2020, I only had private physio for leg and foot related injuries, apart from A&E appointment and x-ray 2015 from which they said I'd never run again, this isn't even on my record. I moved in 2015 and I've had to ask them to add conditions to my list of problems record as so much was missed, including deafness and no mention of 4 middle ear surgeries!
Still struggling with online application, health conditions limit 5000 characters and my Word doc confirmed 4800 and it wouldn't save when copied and pasted, yet another showing nearly 5000 did! No idea still whether or not spaces are included, it's seeming like some are and others aren't in same list your health problems boxes! TIA

Replied by BIS on topic PIP Health Lists - neck-back-shoulder together or separate? Ear issues separate?
Hi MuttonJeff
I can't tell you whether or not you should mention a condition or whether you should lump things together - that's a decision you will have to make for yourself, but when faced with a similar situation, I have put things together, that are related.
Be aware that the DWP are not so interested in a claimant's condition per se but in how it affects their daily living and mobility against the PIP criteria. From what you've said, you have multiple conditions for a long time that have had a severe impact on your life. When you're answering the questions - e.g. Preparing food - you're asked how your conditions affect your ability to do this. From what you have said the online system limits your number of words, and therefore you are likely to have to lump some things together. Remember it has to be s something that impacts you on the majority of days for the DWP to take notice of it.
