PIP REVIEW HELP needed was created by Badback51
Hi All

I really need some help any advice would be great.

My pip was extended until july 2023 i was sent i review and returned it on the 9th October however what my issue is as this is my first review and ive never claimed before.
A family member completed the form for me and put there has been a change in everything and sent the form back with supporting documents.
now what my issue is....My conditions are still affecting me in the same way nothing as changed in my day to day living or my moblity
what has changed is im now injections for one of my conditions and opiatate patches i have a new diagnosis of FND functional neurological disorder i have drop foot,i also have been diagnosed with a tumour and will be having surgery and treatment for this and i am awaiting my brace for my drop foot and awaiting treatment for FND and im awaiting spinal procedure.I have new diagnosis of PTSD and im in EDMR treatment for this now which i wasnt before.

My rheumatoid arthritis is not managed and i have gone from tablets to injections now awaiting to go on biological treatment when i 1st applied it wasnt managed and they was just starting tablets which didnt work
.I had all these conditions and issues when i 1st applied just did not have a diagnosis for the FND, dropfoot,PTSD or the tumor i have. All the other conditions which i have been perviously diagnosed with are still the same and im still under specialist for these and now i have the new conditions confirmed and will be having treatment for them.

Ive only got the diagnosis in the last 15 months or so however i have been living trying to live with these for many years including when i 1st applied for pip with all these the symptoms and how they affect me.the help i get from my family has not changed my needs are still the same my mobility is severely impaired and i use a wheelchair so this has not changed the pain has gotten worse and i have had medication increase and change to medication however im still in server pain which i do not think will go away i am under pain management consultant so this is on going.

What i need help with is my family member completed the form with all changes i have tried to get through to dwp to explain that we had misunderstood the form as nothing has changed in the level of care or support i need and how difficult i find things or how am effected mentally and physically by my disabilities. Im not sure if i get my family member to write a letter explaining that when we completed the form we ticked the wrong box and it should be no change. With a letter detailing the level of support is still the same on what i cant do and that the aids i use are unchanged. And its the diagnosis that have been given yet my limitations are still the same.

Im really panicking now as im not sure what to do yes i have new diagnosis and new medication and an increase and specialist shoes but thats the only thing that has changed and i did use the guides but as i had just been diagnosed with a tumour and lots of scans and appointments i was so stressed out i didnt even question what was written on the form until now and im not sure the best way to sort this out any advice would be great.

Thank you in advance :) x

Hi Badback51,
Are you totally sure that your disabilities haven't changed? It sounds like several new things have happened since the original claim. Does it still take the same time to perform PIP activities, or are you slower. Do you feel more pain or fatigue that prevents you repeating activities as many times as reasonably required across the whole day? Perhaps you have have more pain which might mean that activities can't be done to an acceptable standard. (Yes pain can comprise not achieving an acceptable standard.) Shaky hands or forgetfulness might require more physical help or prompting? Can you walk the same distance or has that decreased? What about your balance, with foot drop that might cause more stumbles or falls so you need more physical support, and maybe can't perform various activities in a safe manner?
What about the cumulative effect of all your health conditions?
I suspect there is a worsening in your ability to perform pip activities that has occurred.
I wouldn't worry about whether you ticked the change or no change box.As long as you have correctly described your limitations this is the important thing. If you have an assessment and get asked a direct question ,'why have you ticked change?' Simply say you ticked it because you have more health problems. The assessor and ir decision maker will determine your lack of function based on how you describe doing or not doing PIP activities. I think the change box is really only there so the Decision Maker knows whether or not he should be considering a higher award than before.
However, my view is, that unless you are already on enhanced level of both daily living and mobility the increased health problems are likely to score more points. Have a real think about your limitations as I've suggested above. I don't think you need to write to DWP. Perhaps your relative genuinely thinks you do PIP activities less well than before. People with disabilities are notoriously bad at recognising their full limitations. They find a way to manage to do stuff, but it may not be to the standard required by PIP!
I hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply LL26

I really appreciate it.I have spoken with my family member and they believe it takes me alot longer to do the pip activities. They said the same thing as you that they dont think i recognise how limited i actually am :(

I am currently on enhanced for both. I scored 13 for daily living and 12 for mobility.
I will take your advice and just wait and explain as everything has been up on my review form.what my limitations are.

Thank you again for your reply and sorry for the delay i have not been feeling great at all lately.

:)
