Pension Credit was created by libran1962
Hi I applied online to try to reinstate my dads pension credit after he was awarded middle rate care dla(pension credit was taken away from him after we lost our mam suddenly in may)he already gets high rate dla mobility. I applied online 9th oct and it said to phone if he hadn’t heard anything by 20 th nov.when I phoned they said they were still within timescale for 3 days as they received it on 12 th oct and to phone again in 3 days which I did only to find they hadn’t started processing it and are still processing claims from back in august. Dads really stressed about this, he has Alzheimer’s plus is still grieving and knows he can get free new dentures once his claim is awarded(it should be as checked eligibility first) he has lost 2 stones whilst grieving and his dentures no longer fit.also age uk said that he should be eligible for severe disability payment now he is on own.do I have to apply for this for him or do I have to wait for pension credit to be reinstated?. Looking online some folk are still waiting after 6 months.is there anything I can do to speed up the process for him apart from keep phoning to chase his claim? Thank you in advance Kind regards Suzanne

Hi libran1962
Age UK are correct, if you father lives on his own and no one claims Carer Allowance for him then he may be entitled to a SDP of £69.40 pw if he is entitled to GPC.
It is one of the easiest benefits to work out, the first question you ask is do you have any savings over £16k if the answer is yes then not entitled.
Second question to ask for a single person is how much income do you receive each week, if total income is less that £182.60 pw then you are eligible to claim GPC.
If your income is over £182.60 pw you then ask are you eligible to any premiums such as SDP, Carers, you are then awarded additional premiums SDP £69.40 pw, Carers £38.85 pw.
Unfortunately what has happened is DWP have moved staff to help clear the backlog on PIP and ESA which has had a knock on effect with other parts of the business such as GPC.
You may try to get your MP involved to move things along.
