Carers element was created by Jackie
Hi, I did a search and couldn't find anything on this subject, I hope you can help.
I was awarded standard daily June 21 and put in a MR. The completed response to this was not received until the end of March 2022, I later found out they had sent the response to my old address. I won my appeal and was awarded mobility in July 22 after which the Welfare Rights officer who completed the paperwork contacted me to discuss the outcome and any other benefits/costs I may be entitled to. She explained Carers allowance as I told her my daughter law and my son did so much for me but I knew DIL would not be interested in that as she was hoping to go back to work part time. I was then told about Carers element, I was told my DIL could have applied for that via her UC when I had received daily standard allowance in June 21. Is this correct because it's very difficult to find information on it? My DIL applied for CE via her online UC account late July 22 but has never received a response. Do they, like PIP, take months to respond? Or, is it because she is working now she would not be eligible? Unsure if it is relevant, I live in Scotland.
Thanks

Hi Jackie
Who is eligible to claim Carer's Allowance?
Anyone would be eligible if they:
a) ~ spend at least 35 hours a week caring for a disabled person (you don't have to live with them or be related to them)
b) ~ care for someone who receives the higher-rate or middle-rate care component of Disability Living Allowance, either rate of Personal Independence Payment daily living component, or any rate of Attendance Allowance
c) ~ do not earn more than £132 a week (after deductions)
d) ~ are not in full-time education
You don't have to be related to or live with the person you care for to claim Carer's Allowance. It's extra money each week for you to use as you want or need to.
If you think you won't be eligible to claim Carer’s Allowance because you have some savings, don't worry. Your savings and your National Insurance record won’t make a difference to your claim.
www.gov.uk/carers-allowance
Your DIL needs to chase it up on her journal, she should get the Care Element in her assessment period when she reported it, if she recorded it on her journal, she needs to follow this up with a call to UC helpline.
If you DIL is working, providing she has regular and substantial caring responsibilities then she would still eligible to claim Carers Element.
