PIP Telephone Assessment was created by Niclou
Having waited for 20 months for a telephone assessment at the start of the call I requested to having the PIP telephone assessment recorded as per PIP leaflet and my rights, the assessor said “yes this is the first time I’ve done this.”

When the assessment came to an end the assessor needed to put me on hold for 2 minutes to come back saying “I’m sorry but there’s a technical problem with the recording so the assessment was not recorded”, this was crucial for me to have as evidence if I need to appeal, there was no compassion from the assessor about the so called technical problem other than saying “if you disagree with the outcome then I can appeal”.

Does anyone know if all calls are recorded anyway other than the recording that you can request or is there anything I can do to make a complaint, I really can’t go through another assessment like that.

Thank you in advance

Hi Niclou

I'm sorry this has happened to you. It is why we always advise people to make their own recording even if they have asked the assessment services to record.

You are certainly not the first person to be told there were technical difficulties, and no recording was carried out. No, the calls are not recorded in any other way.

You are entitled to complain, but be aware that you will just receive the standard 'technical difficulties' type response.

IMHO it is time assessment providers were made to train their staff in how to do the recording. The cynic in me [whatever made me like this?*?*?] says they just don't even try and then just use this as an excuse.
MODS please could back office do an FOI on number of recording requests vs number of recording successes/failures??

Also it is always best not to leave your request till the start o the day, give them notice the minute you get the booking or even before, and they have less excuse. For the benefit of others, so sorry too late for you.
Why not work through your form trying to make comprehensive notes of what you were asked and replied as soon as you can. before memory fades? Much better than nothing, and be sure to phone for the PA4 in 48 hours.
