Like Freddy, I am receipt of income based esa, and in the support group.
This will end, when I reach retirement age in 2023, I believe.
Thank you, Gary for letting us know we can claim pension credit guarantee 3 months before we retire.
I would like to do this not online. Is there a way to do it on a form?
Also, I am worried about paying my rent. I currently get housing benefit from the local council. Will this end too? If it does, I will not be able to pay and fear becoming homeless.

Hi Al
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum
I can put your mind at ease, your housing benefit will not end.
For claimants in receipt of Universal Credit, when they reach state pension age their UC will end including the housing element and they will have to claim housing benefit.
Yes there is a Pension Credit claims form, www.gov.uk/government/publications/pension-credit-claim-form--2 before filling it in you need to make sure that you will be entitled to claim GPC, your local Welfare Rights Organisation will be able to tell you; advicelocal.uk

I thought Pension Credit guarantee was a 'top up' to boost the old state pension to a particular amount.
Would a person coming onto the new state pension still be eligible for pension credit guarantee because the new state pension is more?

Hi lesley
You are correct,
New State Pension is paid at a rate of £185.15 pw but this amount depends on NI contributions
Guarantee pension Credit is paid at a rate of £182.60 pw, therefore most claimants will not qualify for GPC.
Quite often I come across pensioners who get the new SP, but they miss out on premiums.
They are usually in receipt of DLA middle care/PIP daily Living/Attendance Allowance, they would then qualify for a severe disability premium £69.40 pw when added to GPC £182.60 = £252.00 pw.
They would therefore be eligible to claim £66.85 pw Guarantee Pension Credit.
There are other premiums claimants made be eligible for.

I became a pensioner last February. I get both components of PIP with mobility at the higher rate. I was shocked to be awarded GPC given I receive the new SP.
I realised I was getting the Severe disability payment but your post above is the 1st time I've fully understood it.
Thanks Gary

Hi chookey
Thank you for your email,
unfortunately I come across many elderly claimants who do not receive Guarantee Pension Credit and should.
I believe that government systems can identify those claimants not in receipt of GPC but should be. Last year I helped claimants get just over £500k in benefit entitlements.
