Is ESA and UC based on a diagnosis, as such?

My friend has mental health difficulties but no definitive diagnosis and they are worried about whether or not they can claim for the support group. They have been referred to local services for psychological therapies. But as such it is the GP who has said they have mental health issues.

I am wondering is ESA/UC based on a diagnosis?

Hi AnxiousAnonymous

Lergacy ESA is no longer available to new claimants.

New Style ESA is a contribution based benefit same as legacy CB ESA

UC is the same as Income Related ESA which is means tested.

As stated in your previous post; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/kunena/10-dla-...ical-evidence#275827 you do not have to have a diagnosis to claim but it does help. check out our guides; help-for-claimants/esa1
