No PIP as I can drive was created by Kelly244
I have autism which causes me anxiety in my day to day life. ( won’t bore you with details )

Just had PIP letter and I got only 2 points, because first I engaged well over the phone for my pip assessment , and second because I drive . Despite the fact I’ve told them I’m limited to where I can drive too, and it’s impossible for me to use public transport.

Next step - appealing the decision. Better get on the ball as only have one month

Hi Kelly244

I'm sorry this has happened to you. You sound as if you have the decision letter, but you would be wise to get a copy of the assessment report, if you don't have it already. It's called a PA4. This will give you more understanding of their thinking. It will probably take at least ten days for the report to arrive, so I would ring and ask for that immediately and then put in for a Mandatory Reconsideration. Obviously, the postal strikes are a current concern, so you may need to ask for an extension after you have made the request. In the past, they wouldn't grant one for a mandatory reconsideration, but some people have been given one recently (but never leave it until the last minute.)

Do have a good look at our guide to PIP Appeals, which includes information on Mandatory Reconsideration. Don't assume that anyone reading your file will have an understanding of Autism - so tell them how it is and don't hold back. Explain why you would find public transport so difficult.

Thank you

I have an amazing friend who is a qualified counsellor who specialises in Autism, she rang them today and explained very well why she didn’t agree with the outcome, and explained my difficulties ( far better than me ) She was angry with what the assessment report said , as most wasn’t even relevant to my condition, and hardly mention any thing I had told them. She told me not to speak to them again unless she is present, as some of the questions they asked i took too literally. Hopefully with her on my side I will have a chance

Hi Kelly244

I'm glad to hear that you have someone supporting you with this. She's absolutely right to say you shouldn't speak to them alone. J Good luck.
