PIP v Attendance Allowance was created by Arthur
I am on DLA low rate mobility.. On state pension born 1952.. I applied for Attendance Allowance (AA), sent the form in, got a letter back saying thanks for notifying change of circumstances, DLA is going to end and I need to apply for PIP. Obviously they are reviewing DLA(PIP) rather than new claim for AA. ... Could you advise me please 1) If I cancelled my DLA would it be acceptable to then put in a fresh application for AA ?..... 2) The online CAB says ..You won't be able to get Attendance Allowance if you already get Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or if you get Disability Living Allowance (DLA) to pay for your care (the ‘care component’ of DLA)..... I don't get the care component , I am confused as to what I should be doing, is this correct please... thank you..

Hi Arthur

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum

You cannot claim Attendance Allowance if you are already in receipt of DLA.

The difference between DLA and AA is that there is no mobility component with AA, you cannot claim DLA if you are over state pension age. Claimants born after 08/04/1948 who are in receipt of DLA will at some stage in the future be re-assessed for PIP, during covid this process stopped for the time being.

There are two components for DLA; care and mobility, care comes in 3 parts, low, medium and high, mobility comes in 2 parts, low or high.

If your health deteriorates then you may be able to apply for a change of circumstances.

You should always seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation before you do anything; advicelocal.uk
