Hi Clare - I simply had to take my award letter and renewal tax to a post office and got it free, 3 years ago, each year, I renew online and still pay nil to tax my car. a very easy straightforward process - good luck

Hi Clare,
I think it all depends on what part of PIP you get. i.e. it has to be the mobility part.
So if its higher rate mobility you can get free car tax, which you would of had a statement saying you are entitled to free car tax, you just take to post office as Maria said.
If its lower rate then 50% off.
If you go to the GOV. website it tells you how to claim the 50% . when I looked it was a bit confusing as to what you need to send to DVLA,
Good luck

Hi Clare,
If you are in receipt of the lower mobility component of PIP, you are entitled to a 50% discount off your road tax. Higher rate and the tax is free.
Check to see if you have the document 'certificate of entitlement' in your PIP award documentation. If, as happened to me, it isn't there, then you need to phone the PIP helpline to request one.
Then you need to take this, along with all your other PIP documentation and your MOT certificate (just in case), to your Post Office and they will sort it out for you.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Phrank.
