Good afternoon.
I am on standard daily living and standard mobility on pip. However, my conditions have deteriorated and also I am now a power wheelchair user.
I have letters of support for the enhanced rate from my GP, healthcare worker, a friend, (who is an ex community nurse) and my vicar. I have also done homework prep ready for requesting an early review of pip.
However, I am uncertain of whether to “rock the boat” and lose what I currently have.
My current claim ends November 2024 and been told the forms get sent out again November 2023.
I spoke to citizens advice, who said that I have good strong evidence with my letters.
She explained that there are three outcomes. 1. They increase it 2. They keep it as it is. 3. They reduce it.
However she said that because it’s an unfair system, even though the evidence shows I have deteriorated, there are still no guarantees that they won’t reduce it.
How often does this happen when requesting an early review, due to deterioration of the claimant, that the DWP decide to actually reduce it or stop the award?
Wondering if it’s worth the stress and the risk, or better to just stay as I am until it’s time to apply for the next claim.

Hi Becky
What a dilemma. I wish I could tell you what to do here, but I can't. All I can say is that I have only ever known a couple of people who have theirs reduced when they put in for a change of circumstances.
The very fact that you are now a power wheelchair user and it sounds as if you weren't when you applied - it would be hard for them to argue that your condition has improved. You also have letters of support from key people involved in your care which is a good thing.
Your current claim is due to end in Nov 24 - but what if that is delayed (which is possible)? If you don't put in for a change now - you may wait even longer for a review and perhaps miss out on additional money you are entitled to.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
