I'm sorry to ask such a basic question however I don't understand about PIP renewal. I have an award that is due to end early 2024 but the notice says it can be reviewed anytime after end of January 2023. What does that mean for when I should expect to receive a renewal form - 6 months before the end of the award or with the new rules that I will get a new renewal date? I don't understand the difference between a renewal date and the extended payment of PIP for 12 months. I have a head injury and can't apply or make sense of information to a situation. I'm so sorry if this wasted anyone's time but I can't link the renewal date to the extended payment date. I'm confused and don't understand. I did not receive any text or letter from PIP so far..

Hi Misunderstood.

Feel free to ask any questions and we will try to answer them. (Don't put yourself down - you don't know, what you don't know!)

PIP review forms are generally sent out up to 11 months before the end date of the award. That's why you have been told that you can be reviewed any time after January 2023, because your end date is the beginning of 24. When exactly you will receive the form, I cannot say. The DWP are trying to get them out in plenty of time.

Some people have had their award dates extended. This is because the DWP has a backlog of cases to deal with. This has led to some confusion that people assume the review form will be sent out just before the award end date. This is not the case. It still applies that the review forms will be sent out up to 11 months before the new end date. So many people have received a letter telling them they have an extension to their award and then a few days or a few weeks later receive a review form and get upset by it.

So to clarify:

PIP Extensions of 12 months - this is a new award end date
PIP Reviews - form sent out up to 11 months before the award end date.

Once a PIP review is completed successfully a new award end date is issued and this overwrites any previous date.

I hope this gives you a clearer picture of what is happening. If you need any further help, don't hesitate to ask.
