Mandatory reconsideration was created by Julie
May I ask for some advice? Thank you.

I have been awared PiP (so happy) and not yet recieved my award letter. I asked for a copy of my PA4 report within two days of medical and it was lost in the post had to ask for it again it arrived today 2 weeks after first requested. The decsion was made to award before I had sight of the PA4. From looking at the report and the descriptors awared (ticked) I have been awarded no points for the '11.Planning and following journeys' yet I belive my evidence should have been awared 8 points which would move me to the enhanced award for mobility. The assesor says because I can manage short (familiar) journeys and wasn't showing signs of anxiety, had a normal manner and coped well with the interview I should be able to plan and follow an unfamiliar journey. In my application and interview I explained why I could not do 'unfamiliar journeys alone' and its mostly physical as well as mental. I also prepped for the interview and am used to speaking in public and my nerves/anxiety do not always show! The comments about how I presented are all subjective.

The assesor was very pleasant and said I could add any comments if I felt her report was incorrect, before the decsion was made, but it arrived after the decsion was made (was made very quickly) so I wasn't able to respond as I wanted to - it was too late.

I feel I will want to ask for a mandatory reconsideration to try for the enhanced mobility rate but I see the success rate is low. I also have seen my GP since the medical assesment and a few things have chnaged. I feel I have enough evidence to challenge but is it worth it and do I risk losing the standard award?
I have had so much help here from the guides, the forum and researching all your responses to questions.. I thank you all so much! Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Replied by Gary on topic Mandatory reconsideration
Hi Julie

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum

What you may want to do is wait for PIP payment to be made then apply for a mandatory reconsideration.

If you are happy with the daily living award then tell them that and explain why you believe the mobility conponent is incorrect, if you have evidence to support your claim such as a statement/letter from specialist, family/friend then send it in.

Check the criteria for planning and following journeys.
