Pip Appeal was created by Evesmum
I applied for Pip in January 2022, and was turned down. I appealed and told them that I was not able to attend a hearing but I was happy to do a telephone meeting with them. I then had a telephone assessment with a nurse. I received a 12 page letter, mostly it is a report from the nurse. At the end of this report, it says "Therefore, a medium prognosis of 12 months is advised to allow time for all of this as there is the potential that her conditions/symptoms could improve with the current/altered treatment." What does this mean please? I called up and asked explained that I did not understand the letter, and was told that I should receive a decision within the next 2 weeks. I am not sure if he was genuine or just saying this. Please can you advise? Many thanks.

Hi Evesmum
I'm slightly puzzled by your post. You applied for PIP in January 22 and were turned down. The next stage should have been a Mandatory Reconsideration. The MR should have been a written submission from you. Then the next stage would be an Appeal which can take up to a year. If you went through the Appeal process, you would have been sent a bundle of papers, and there would have been a three-personal- panel on the call.
You say you had an assessment with a nurse and were sent a twelve-page letter, and the decision will follow in two weeks.
I have not heard of this happening before.
Once you get the decision letter, the sentence might have more meaning, but it seems to imply that your symptoms or conditions could improve with current or new treatment within the next twelve months. If you are given an award (and this nurse is not the person who decides), this sentence would have an impact on the length.

Hi, I apologise for the confusion, my mental and physical health isn't in the best place, I get confused and stressed and suffer a lot of pain. I applied in January 2022 for PIP, I had a telephone assessment in early April 2022 with Capita, this was refused and I applied for a mandatory reconsideration. at the end of April 2022. and this was refused again early June 2022. I appealed and I had a telephone appointment with a nurse mid October 2022. I received a copy of her report which is very long, but a the end of it it says the following. 'Considering the available evidence, severe functional disability appears likely in the area of initiating and completing personal action. A medium prognosis of 12 months is advised to allow time for all of this as there is the potential that her conditions/symptoms could improve with the current/altered treatment.' I have received several copies of this report from the Courts & Tribunal. I telephoned them when I received the last letter as I do not understand it all. (I have never claimed benefits in my life before this) the person I spoke to told me that I should receive a decision within a couple of weeks. He may have just said this to get rid of me on the phone, I don't know. I am sorry to be so long winded.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Evesmum
Thanks for your clarification.
I can't tell you anything more than I have already said - the nurse thinks that with the current treatment, you are having or with new treatment - there is a chance that your condition and/or symptoms will improve over a 12-month period.
Whether that means you will be awarded PIP, I cannot say. I'm afraid you will have to wait for the decision. When you get the decision, you can apply to the Tribunals Service for a 'Statement of Reasons', which will tell you how the decision was reached.
I can't tell you exactly when you will get the decision letter, but if you have been told in a couple of weeks - there is a good chance that is correct. The Tribunals Service will have a clear idea of their timescale.

This is an ESA/UC activity not PIP, which would be consistent with your apparently having an assessment after you have made an appeal in regard to your PIP claim.

Hi Gordon, Thank you for your reply. I do not understand what you say, I have never made a claim for ESA or UC, does this mean that I don't have a claim for pip? Thank you.
