Telephone assesment coming up was created by shocksl
Hi guys,

A couple of months ago, I filled 1 or 2 pages of the pip form.

But i never completed it.

I have recieved a telephone call from PIP who adviced me next week they will carry out a telephone assesment, a letter i recieved a couple of days ago confirmed this.

I adviced them I didnt complete the form, and whether I should. She was unsure at the start but then said don't as it will delay the application process . so Im not sure if this is the correct advice.

Also , what will the telephone assesment consist of, considering I havent completed the full form. Will they go through the form with me too? and then do the assesment or what? any tips will be be appreciated.

my conditions:
severe sleep apnea for over a yeah
asthma many years
depression/ anxiety 4 yrs
Cubital tunnel syndrome right hand, (nerv entapment) over a year
nerve entrapment in my right leg and glute over 6 months
shoulder implgment for over 3 years

Ive had a fall 14 months ago, due to sleep apnea, smashed my nose in my house. Had an operation to fix this 7 months ago. which didnt go to plan and still under review.

Do I have any chance of getting pip or not? I understand its about how it affects my daily lving. but have people with the above conditions i have , had any real chance of getting pip?

Hi shocksl

Unfortunately the backoffice have not issued us with any crystal ball, so we are unable to say if you will get PIP or not.

If you have a look at our PIP guide at the link below you will see that there are a number of pages which include advice on telephone assessments. Yes, a lot of the questions are those that would have been asked if you had a face to face assessment.
benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip

- Write yourself a bullet point list of any particular points you want to get over, so you have it by you during the assessment, tick them as you cover them during the assessment.
- have paper and pens to hand to make any notes such as the assessors name, date, time
- make sure you are seated in a comfortable chair, you are going to be there a while and at table to make notes
- if you can't hear or understand what is being asked then ask them to repeat the question
- don’t let the assessor rush you and get you flustered.
- don't forget to have a glass of water if needed so you don't get a dry throat and lose your voice!

Don't forget to contact DWP 48 hours after the assessment and ask for a copy of the assessors report called PA4.

3 things

1) I asked if any of you knew of anyone with similar conditions to me ever been awarded Pip. Not whether I will get it too. This was to assess my chances of getting. Unsure of your sarcastic response

2) i asked whether the questions will be the same as the form I was supposed to fill, as I didnt complete it. or different. Not whether its the same as a F2F.

3) I asked whether its true that if i completethe form now , whether it will delay it. as the lady who rang me seemed unsure.

I had a telephone assessment without notice last month. The only advice I can give is to have someone with you who knows your difficulties well. The assessor asked my son (who luckily was here when she called) more questions than she asked me, to confirm my day to day issues. The call was over within 20 mins & I was successful with enhanced for both for 10 yrs. Wishing you the best of luck xx

Hi Shocksl

1. Yes there are claimants with conditions that you mention that have been awarded PIP. Be aware that people can appear to have the same condition eg depression and anxiety, but one may be awarded PIP and another won't be. That's because there are so many other issues come into play, such as the severity, the medication, the specific symptoms, help they may require, how it limits their lifestyle etc. So any claimant can decide they fit the criteria, but it's the DWP who decide, partially on the information they have and the answers given at an assessment.

2. If you look at the guide Gary linked to, it runs through the questions you might be asked. Yes, they should be similar to the ones on the form, but they can vary. Assessors often ask a question that seems completely unrelated. Sometimes claimants are surprised when they are not asked specific questions. This can be because the assessor thinks they already have the answer and therefore don't need to ask the question. We know from the feedback and our experience - not everyone gets asked all the questions.

3. I'm afraid I can't tell you whether if you complete the form now whether they will delay the process. That is a decision for the assessment services or DWP, and they are the only ones who can give you an accurate answer on this matter. It is the sort of question that is answered on an individual basis, and they won't necessarily treat everyone the same.
