WDP and PIP

WDP and PIP was created by David
I am on a 60% WDP for service related back, shoulder and leg injuries; when my mobility worsened, I applied for and received the WPMS. I had back surgery in June, 2021, and am also being treated for leukaemia. I have been on contributory ESA (in the support group) and UC since the outset of the pandemic when I lost my business. It all sounds bad, but heh-ho! I keep positive. A friend recently applied for a WDP and was awarded just 19%, a low award in my view for one who suffers terribly from PTSD. He was also advised and was successful in applying for PIP, being awarded the higher amounts for both daily living and mobility. Whereas, I understand there are many different factors to be considered, and that each case must turn on its merits, I am wondering whether I should also apply for PIP. I am currently awaiting the oh-so-slow Veterans Agency to decide on my application for Unemployability Supplement (Unsupp), payable with my WDP, but am not sure whether this could affect any successful application I make for PIP. If anyone can advise, I’d be most appreciative.

Hi David

I'm afraid that I have no knowledge of WDP or WPMS as it is outside the scope of the forum. I wanted to try and answer part of your question, so I looked to see if you could apply for PIP and whether it would have any impact on what you are currently receiving.

The government guidance says you couldn't get WPMS if you have enhanced PIP mobility rate. So I am therefore assuming that you won't be able to apply for PIP. www.gov.uk/guidance/war-pension-scheme-mobility-supplement-wpms

This isn't our area of expertise, and you might want to talk to a specialist welfare advisor who can discuss the different options with you. advicelocal.uk/
