How will working affect my claim? was created by hippyhappyone
I have been offered 4-6 hours per week, £11 an hour working for a local charity. I am in ESA support group, contributions based.
The job is a small amount of admin. The employer knows about my variable mental health difficulties and she is more than flexible with how I work. I can choose when I do the hours, I can work it round getting a lift there and back. I can go in when no one else is there or I can do it from home. She understands that even with this, I might need to take sickness leave.

I know I can earn £156 and work less than 16 hours a week....but realistically, how is accepting this position going to affect my ESA and PIP claim? I am on enhanced rate care and mobility.

My potential manager is willing to write any letter of support.

Hi hippyhappyone

We cannot answer your question as we do not know you or what disabilities you have and what your limitations are.

Before you start any work, whether paid or unpaid, you should fill in a PW1 form. Post it to the address at the top of any ESA letters DWP have sent you. Please do not take this form into your Jobcentre Plus office.

DWP will then let you know if the work you want to do meets the permitted work conditions. If you do any kind of work that doesn’t meet the conditions, you could lose your benefit.

If you can’t tell DWP before you start work, you should fill in a PW1 form and send it as soon as possible after starting work. www.gov.uk/government/publications/emplo...itted-work-factsheet
