Can the DWP renege on a PIP extension?

I was notified in writing from the DWP in 2021 of an extension to my PIP award. The extension was until February 2024.

I recently received a letter from the DWP "Performance Measurement Team" informing me that I am booked in for a review over the phone this month.
When I rang them about this they said my name had been chosen at random for this review.

I also recently received an Award Review form from "Personal Indepence Payment 1".

1. Is this a coincidence, that I've been chosen at random by the Performance Measurement Team for a review, and during the same month been sent an Award Review form from PIP 1 to fill in?

2. Why are they reviewing me in April 2023 when my award has been extended until 2024?

3. Does this mean that although my award has been extended until 2024 I am now not guaranteed to receive PIP up to that time?

Hi Matthew

1. Is it a coincidence that you've been chosen at random? I would say yes, these things happen, but I can't prove it to you.

2. The DWP can review any claimant at any time, regardless of the claimant's award end date. It is common practice for the DWP to send out review forms up to a year before the award end date. This gives the DWP plenty of time to process them. So you were given an extension up until Feb 2024, and your form has been sent to you in the expected time frame.

3. When a claimant is reviewed, if the review is successful then a new end date is awarded. So whether you receive PIP up to Feb 24 will depend on how quickly you are reviewed and the result of the review.
