Hello there,

I'm a new subscriber. I was awarded PIP mobility and daily living a few years ago. It was a terrible struggle to get there - went to appeal and it took two years which was backdated. It was awarded on mental health grounds, trauma etc.

Received the dreaded form two weeks ago. My DD is currently ten weeks away from sitting her A level exams and I have a lot on my plate on a day to day level right now - being a lone parent - also in the last six months following a foot injury I have developed arthritis in my foot which makes walking difficult and also experience pain.

When the form arrived I'm afraid instead of getting help filling it in, I just answered the questions quickly - as I couldn't face it and then got DD to take it to post box - I got an acknowledgement to say it had been received by text. Which is something I guess.

I more or less just said that my mental health issues have stayed the same but I now have additional physical issues with arthritic foot.

The way I try to tackle my anxiety is to try to form a realistic picture of what might happen and then let it go in my head if you know what I mean.

So my question is what can realistically happen now? Have I totally messed up sending the form back quickly?

Since sending off the form I have asked my G.P to write a statement summarising which issues I have now - she will send that soon. I also have to go for more blood tests etc and am awaiting an ultrasound scan and muscular skeletal app but both are at least four months away due to crisis in NHS.

Is it likely that they will review in the next ten weeks? Just trying to manage my stress levels as they are very high at the moment, perhaps when DD's exams are over - I might be in a better position to tackle anything else that needs to be done on this.

I have had a terrible time adjusting to loss of mobility and pain.

Thanks for help. Any ideas or comforting words I am grateful for.

At least I've joined this forum. Thanks in advance.

Hi Woodlandwonderer

Welcome to the forum.

I'm afraid I can't tell you when they might review your form. We have found that some are taking eight weeks and some are taking up to eighteen months. We simply don't know.

Were you wrong to send back your form so quickly? I can't answer that either. The good thing is that you got your form in, and you have an acknowledgement that they'e got it. Plenty of people send their forms back without help (even when needed), and plenty of people don't write very much. Each person has to work with the circumstances in which they live and with their health difficulties. You did what you could do at the time, and there is little point now in worrying that you had done something differently.

All you can do now is wait until you hear from the DWP. They will make a decision on the type of assessment you will have - face-to-face, video, telephone or paper-based. At the moment, the majority of claimants are given a telephone assessment.
When you hear from the DWP, you will be able to look at the guide on how to prepare for the next stage.

If you have any further questions - come back and ask and we will try to help.

Hi,
DWP and how long is a piece of string go together really well. They still seem to have quite a backlog so give your head the next few weeks time out. I get totally that it never goes away & is a constant niggle but l did give myself a break at the beginning. My review was sent of 5th Nov 2021 & resolved (in a good way happily) today.
If something comes to mind in the meantime as being very important, you can always ring -9am on dot gets you through quickest- and ask them to add a note. I did that several times while waiting and my requests were always added.
If it helps, call once a month to see where your claim is at. Then you can at least plan month by month to give yourself a timeout from worrying. Good luck.

Dear Woodlandwonderer. 3 things to keep it concise
1] Love your name, having been brought up right on the edge of Epping Forest. I still love it on rare times I get back there.
2] You're so right about this forum, it's a huge help to me and so many others.
3] My one advance thing just in case you get a call at a time that's not great - so you are prepared. This is: definitely definitely ask for any assessment be it telephone or face to face to be recorded. I believe they do not offer this for the few video ones being done nowadays - but I personally would have a recorded phone one any day over an unrecorded video one. If the type offered doesn't suit you, you can ask for a different type.
Kind regards,
Denby

All replies I really appreciate - very glad to have joined the forum as it means to a certain extent I am out of thinking I am the only person in the world struggling with what they do.
