Bogus Direct debit/Migration from ESA to Universal credit

Hi

When I moved into my flat on 3rd June 2019 I didn't have the £508 advance rent that Town and Country Housing Association of T/Wells required. At the time I was recovering from a life threatening medical condition and they persuaded/manipulated me into taking out a direct debit of £20 a month.
On reflection this mysterious request makes no sense as I was /or ought to have been covered 100% by Housing Benefit! Due to my illness I forgot totally about this DD for a two and a half year period in which they took £786 from my account while the rent was covered by Housing benefit
They also increased this DD over this period without telling me, and finally in October 2021 I realised what was going on and promptly stopped this unnecessary Direct debit and heard nothing from the Housing Association, another huge red flag.
For brevity as I dont know if you have come across this in your experience , I have been through the ineffective complaints procedure at the housing association and then took it to the housing ombudsman who again were useless in helping get my money back that was taken errroneously.
To sum up £786 was taken from me erroneously while for that entire period they, the housing association were being paind the full rent in the form of housing benefit.
Any help of insights would be appreciated.

Thanks

Nicholas

I'm sorry but this is not an area of benefits that we advise on.
