PIP form extention date - now the exhausting mentally & physically prepping

After receiving my latest PIP form just before Easter, 1st form as did not arrive in the 10 days stated, still waiting for the 2nd form to arrive, I did manage to get an extention to 6 May 2023. After quite a few attempts this morning to contact DWP, eventually I got through, explained how my situation was at the moment and finding it difficult to get the information, off this nice sounding bloke went to speak to a case manager to get a further extention. Now due 3 June 2023 - about 28 days extention. I am relieved I have the longer extension, however I am still very overwhelmed by trying to collate the relevent PIP speak information, evidence and also help from CAB. Doing the PIP on demand training has and still is helping. However, there is only me to try to work through it for myself and also for my 2 at home special needs young adults. Not sure which steps to do first and in which order. The only training module I have not got vast quantities of notes from yet is the Assessment one. Any simple advice welcome. I am already doing a bit at a time. Thanks in advance.

Hi Diane

Well done for getting a second extension. At least you have a little breathing space. In truth there isn't much I can tell you that will help. You are already doing all the right things, doing the training, getting extra help and working through it a bit at a time. You can do no more.

Please try not to put too much pressure on yourself to get it perfect. You can only do your best. It honestly doesn't matter which order you do it in. Do what you can cope with on any given day. The fact is that you will find yourself repeating information because that is the nature of the beast. Don't expect an assessor to remember that a medical condition that you might talk about which applies, for example, to washing and bathing, might also apply to communicating with others. You have to keep pointing it out to them!

If you're struggling for the exact wording to use - have a look at the guide to PIP claims and reviews because they have lots of examples. At the end of the day, you can only do your best. I don't know anyone who has sent in a form and then doesn't later wish they had said something differently or included something they forgot.

Good luck, and if you have any further questions, come back and ask, and we will try to help.

Finally collected my paperwork & 1st PIP2 form back from CAB (after being told it could not be left in an envelope for me to collect, or gotten to my more local CAB (found out that the papers could have been left for earlier collection). By the by, as I was collecting the stuff from CAB today I rang DWP again and eventually got a further 2 weeks extention "seeing my CAB person on 24/5/2023 is a bit close to the current extention deadline". Glad I could now get a further extention. I will now be going through my typed out best answers to each question, also with a typed out plus an example of my unreadable handwriting for good measure in order to reduce the type font to as small as possible but still readable, then sticking the print outs into my form (saves on copying as I now have both PIP2 forms they sent me).
I have put Yes, but "that all my mental, physical & somatic C&D (diagnosed or undiagnosed) are fluctuating conditions limiting my ability to carry out daily living & mobility activities "reliably" on each Question's best answers. I have also put for each relevent part "Yes, but the C&Ds which most affect me ..............for whichever activity it is ..........are ...........................
Also paraphrasing the descriptors which I believe most apply to me and their points. Apparently my CAB person wants me to let them know how I get on with this claim. Still feeling let down that they did not even question me about my use of Regulation 4(2A) and Regulation 7 in our actual interview. Not sure which of my mental health conditions is not letting go of these issues and my many years of mis-information about my own PIPS2 applications (think it's actually double figures now). I really hope that I get at least the standard rate(s) awarded this time. Thanks for the comments, advice and support.

Hi Diane

By the sound of your post you seemed frustrated with how things have gone so far but with a positive ending.

Fingers crossed you get the outcome you want, don't forget to send the completed form + supporting off by recorded delivery and number each additional page you send and include your name and national Insurance number.

Let us know how you get on.
