PIP award end date no extension? was created by Rococo
Hello,

I was called over a year early for the beginning on my PIP reassesment process – forms were sent in by a welfare advisor for me and were actually acknowledged as received ( which makes a change) a few months ago, since then I have has several issues to deal with which I will go into in another thread but more urgently I am now only a week away from the end of my award. I have written to PIP 3 times, I cannot call because I am hard of hearing so please dont suggest it and I have noone else who can either currently! My welfare advisors when they were actively supporting me were only told, the form will be dealt with in due course. I am now very worried, my bus pass also stops on the same day as its connected to the award. Is this unusual? I keep hearing about people getting extensions but I have not had anything.

Can someone confirm am I entitled to an extension if the DWP failed to process me in time?, how can I ensure ( not ringing) that this is done? Ringing isny any good anyway these days, the DWP lied to my advisor about what I had previously sent in.

All PIP claims being reassessed should automatically be extended 30 days before the award ends either by 3 months, the DWP will not notify you of this, or by 12 months in which case they should write to you.

The most effective way to confirm this is to call or to get someone to call for you, could the welfare advisor you mention do this for you, writing is an option but the DWP is notoriously bad at responding to these letters within a reasonable timescale, or at all.

The only other way to confirm the extension is to wait for the next payment after the End Date on your current award, if it is paid then the award has been extended and will continue to be extended as necessary.

Thanks Gordon, although it sounds like i should get an extension and thats a relief, I need proof of this for my mobility travel card, who will not extend it without a letter. As they are the Council, they should have some sort of direct line to contact DWP as they are connected through Housing Benefits, do you know of anything like this? Also are there any sort of rules for welfare advisors to adhere too ( I know this isnt directly your area but you may know in passing) I have been told my advisor is away for a period of time due to sickness and they have not given me anyone else, so I am struggling to get support.

Hi Rococo

You need to contact DWP and explain your predicament, they may be able to send you a letter for your mobility travel card.

Hi Gary,

I have sent around 10 letters to the DWP in the last year, none of them have resulted in any response. I cannot call, the last two letters discussed this exact situation in detail. I need a way to contact them and i thought the Council was connected to them and may be able to help?

Hi Rococo

Do you send your letters by recorded delivery?

You need to contact your MP; members.parliament.uk/FindYourMP who will be able to help you or contact ICE; www.gov.uk/government/organisations/independent-case-examiner they may also be able to help if you have a complaint.
