Hello,
yes the 2 containing assessment forms and a complaint were sent tracked signature required, Royal Mail failed to get a signature and blamed the DWP, stating' they use a third party company at these addresses, we do not get signatures from them, its their fault if its gone missing' so now you can pay and you dont even get proof it was received. Have you not heard of this? i would be surprised if I am the only one.
ICE are useless unfortunately, I had a complaint a few years ago they did not resolve despite it being about legacy back dated benefits.
Can i please put another quesry here? or feel free to move it to a new thread, I have just received today a letter for a telephone assessment despite putting on my form and all communications and my old welfare advisor pointing out I am partially deaf. Can i request in person instead and ask them to cancel this? Thanks.

Hi Rococo
Yes you can contact the assessor and request a face to face due to your hearing difficulties.
If you are unsuccessful then you need to make a complaint and also get your MP involved, you will be surprised how fast things happen once a MP gets involved. It does seem a bit ridiculous having to involve his MP at such an early stage but the earlier you resolve the issue the less stressed you will get.
The Equality Act 2010 sets out the duty on service providers and those exercising public functions to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. The definition of ‘disability’ in the Act is a physical or mental condition which has a substantial and long-term adverse impact on the person’s ability to do normal day to day activities.

Thank you Gary, I have sent an email to them pointing out I am partially deaf, my phone is not the sort that can use text relay apps ( which they mention) and honestly, I would struggle to carry out an assessment that way for several reasons anyway. If I do not hear back by Monday i will email my MP. I assume that if they choose not to deal with my compaint and failt to get back to me, thats not considered my fault if i 'miss' this assessment is it?

Hi Rococo
Unfortunately, if they haven't got back to you, and you don't take part in the assessment - they are likely to say that is your fault. You may be able to sort it out, but it will add even more stress to a difficult situation. That's one of the reasons Gary has suggested contacting your MP if they don't make the changes you have requested.

How are people with an MP who fails to do much for constituants or reply to emails and letters supposed to cope? Its 50/50 for me on if my MP would do anything. They have been back in touch and now want to do a paper assessement, I dont feel confident that these result in a fair assessment, is there are information about how many paper assesments pass compared to in person or telephone?
They basically refused to give me an in person one, I wonder if they even have their assessment centres anymore, everyone has used Covid as an excuse to stop providing in persons services it seems.
