ESA, PIP and Holiday was created by Wiggles
I understand that we need to inform the DWP if we ever leave the UK for more than 4 weeks, however:
1) Do we need to inform them if we go away for 4 weeks, twice in a year but at separate times in a year?
2) What happens if I'm away for longer than 4 weeks, in a block? Would I lose ESA, PIP?
3) If I'm away for 4 weeks and then have to leave again due to family emergency later in the year do I need to inform them again, even if it's less than 4 weeks and would I lose ESA, PIP?
4) What constitutes a year to the DWP? From May to May or all of 2023 for example?
I can't find any answers to these questions but I'm concerned because I would like to investigate medical treatment outside of the UK and also have a family matter. I want to do what's right and not risk lose the support I desperately require.
Thank you.

Hi Wiggles
You need to contact your local Welfare Rights Organisation as they will take all your circumstances into consideration; advicelocal.uk
You continue to be entitled to PIP, AA and DLA during a temporary absence (defined as unlikely to exceed 52 weeks) abroad for:
~ the first 12 weeks; or
~ the first 26 weeks, if the absence is solely in connection with medical treatment for your illness or disability that began before you left the GB.
AA Regs, reg 2; DLA Regs, reg 2; PIP Regs, regs 17 & 18
The above information is from Disability Rights Handbook Edition 46 April 2021 - April 2022 page 281 Chapter 56, 2 Disability Benefits
I have also found the following Gov.UK link: www.gov.uk/claim-benefits-abroad/disability-benefits which confirms the above information.
