PIP question- washing was created by vicki_s
Hi

I have been awarded PIP standard daily living but was just one point away from enhanced and thinking about appealing. Due to my condition I cannot shower more than once a week due to extreme symptoms. No aids or assistance would improve this. They award me 3 points for needing assistance to get in and out of the shower. However, this is not true, I physically cannot shower at all the majority of days even with assistance. I feel I should've been awarded 8 points due to the fact I cannot shower at all majority of days. Is is reasonable for me to appeal for more points on this activity? Thank you!

Hi vicki_s
In order to gain more points under washing, you would need to show that to you need assistance to wash your upper body, 4f, or per 4g
"Cannot wash and bathe at all and needs another person to wash their entire body."
You stated that you physically can't do more than 1 shower per week, but if you could tolerate another person washing you, eg as a strip wash then 4g could apply. Remember that it is help you need rather than help you actually get that matters.
Think about the problems you have and what help another person could actually give, if this fits within 4g (or indeed any other descriptor, to consider more points .
Think also about the effects. If you are too exhausted, in pain, breathless etc then this indicates a need for help. (On the basis of not acceptable standard.) Think also about safety. Clearly at 1 shower per week this suggests you can't repeat as often as reasonably required, which you could arguexas being ar least once per day.
Think also about how long you take.
Depending on your answers, this again eoukd indicate the need for help which might then allow you to score under 4g, and may be other descriptors too.
Remember that the highest value if points in a section shoukd be awarded if 2 or more descriptors on that set apply equally.
I hope this helps.
