Carers allowance was created by Susan Smith
Hi, my husband is my sole carer and has claimed carers allowance for looking after me but, he has now reached state pension age and will be getting his state pension from June.
My husband has had a letter now to say that the carers allowance will stop due to his state pension.
I am not state pension age for another 3 years and was just wondering if this is correct please.
Thank you for any advice.

Hi Susan
In respect of your husband's carer's allowance - it is his age that matters at this point - not yours. It is not possible to claim the full amount of Carer’s Allowance and your State Pension at the same time. However, he might still be able to get some extra money in recognition of his caring role.
If a person's state pension is less than carer's allowance - they can get the difference paid in Carer’s Allowance. For example, based on the current rate of Carer’s Allowance per week (£76.75 2023/24), if your State Pension is £66 per week you can get £10.75 per week in Carer's Allowance.
If a person's state pension is more than carer's allowance then they are not eligible for Carer's allowance. However, they may be eligible for an underlying caring entitlement. You can read about it here : www.carersuk.org/help-and-advice/financi...plus-other-benefits/
