Enhanced PIP award amount was created by philip1946
I have just received a notice of award letter which has given me enhanced PIP for daily living but nothing for mobility despite not being able to walk 20 meters nor read signs due to my condition Myasthenia Gravis. The award amount is for £92.40 per week from 4th April but shouldn't it be the new rate of £101 ?
How do I politely tell them they've got the award amount wrong and also way off with the mobility element.

Hi Philip1946

I'm sorry that you did not receive the award you were hoping for. if you haven't already, you need to ring the DWP and ask for a copy of your assessment report. If you had a telephone/video or face-to-face assessment, it's a PA4. This will should indicate why you weren't awarded anything for mobility. Obviously, I have no idea what you wrote, but there's a good chance that your assessor has not even come across Myasthenia Gravis. On the NHS website, it says that it's a "rare condition." And if they haven't come across it, they may not have any understanding of the impact. Even if they have heard of it or have experience of treating someone with it, the impact can vary greatly from one person to another.

Your next option is to put in for a Mandatory Reconsideration - which you need to do within one month from the date on the decision letter. If you look at the Guide to PIP appeals (which includes the Mandatory Reconsideration details) - it will walk you through the process of how you do this. It's easier to put in for an MR if you have the assessment report, so you understand why you weren't awarded anything for mobility. benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip (scroll down the page to find it).

When you put in for the MR, make it clear that you are only challenging the mobility component and that you are satisfied with the Daily Living component.

With regard to the weekly rate, you just need to query this with them, and you can do this over the phone.

Hi BIS I did phone DWP and after 27 minutes my call was answered by a gent with a very strong accent and a crackly line. Lot of time trying to tell him we are happy with daily living but need mobility looking at again. Transferred me and after a wait of 32 mins I got a very helpful and sympathetic sounding young lady - hope me assessment of her is correct - and she was very meticulous and is having different case worker look at my application. I also wrote immediately after the call expressing our gratitude and explaining the need for the mobility element. Now we just have to wait which is quite stressful in itself.
