Updating medical conditions

Updating medical conditions was created by Nnif
I submitted my PIP review form back in February and am still waiting to hear back from them. However this week I received a new diagnosis on a condition which further affects my mobility. At the moment, I’m currently receiving the higher rate for mobility, so what I want to know is:

1) Whether it’s worth the effort of updating the DWP with this new condition?
2)Will the update delay the timeframe that I will receive a response?

I would be grateful for any advice people can offer.

Hi Nnif

For the DWP to take any notice of a new condition, you need to have had this issue for a minimum of three months before informing the DWP, and with the knowledge that it will last for at least the nine following months.

You already have enhanced mobility, and you will hope when your review is completed, that will continue. If you satisfy the criteria above (3 months before and 9 months after) and you are worried about your enhanced mobility being continued - then you might want to inform them now if you think it improves your case. If you are pretty sure that your enhanced mobility is not in any danger, then there's really no need to inform them at the current time because it will make no difference and just gives them one more thing to consider, which they can always misunderstand.

If you inform them now, will it upset the timeframe of your review? I have no idea. Your form was only returned in February (which is a long time ago for you, but not for the DWP) and you may be waiting months for it to be done.

Sorry, I can't give you a straight answer on what you should do. I would probably take my chance and not inform them, but I'm not you, and if you feel that is a vital piece of information that they need to have now - then you should send it in.
