separating from partner was created by pomaus
My Partner and I are both in receipt of Contribution based ESA ( Legacy Benefit) In the support group
We do not claim any means-tested benefits. Council Tax benefits or Housing Benefits

We are now separating.

If I move to a new address ( in the same area) will this be regarded as a change of circumstances and we will both have to claim UC.

I have looked at the rules and can only see mentions of Income-related benefits.

I do not want to have to claim UC

Any help would be appreciated

Hi pomaus

As you do not need to claim any means tested benefits then you will not need to claim UC.

You do need to notify DWP once you move to your new address or else your benefits may get suspended, also let your local authority know as being single you will be entitled to 25% single persons discount.

Thank you Gary.

Do I actually need to inform the DWP though of a change of address, because My ex and I actually own 2 homes outright and have above the capital limit in savings ( hence the reason why also not claiming IR Benefits)
Since, for the time being anyway and until a divorce is finalised, and it is not decided who will end up with what property.
Do I really need to give the DWP a change of address?

I will just be staying in the 2nd home, which the dwp knows about already.

I am still financially liable for all the bills at the corresponding address and would prefer to keep it that way,

I am terrified of being migrated on to UC, even though I know I dont claim anything means tested

Hi pomaus

You need to inform DWP when you move permanently, as you do not need help with your housing costs then you do not need to apply for UC at this moment in time of being migrated, you will receive a letter, at present DWP are working on Tax credit claimants first.

Some claimants have to apply for UC if they are in receipt of certain benefits such as Tax Credits and move into certain areas, I think Manchester is the latest area to go live, check out B&W news letters for up todate information.
