Dear Benefits and Work

Am in receipt of pip until age 67; currently age 63. Have developed a new health issue. Can I continue to claim for pip at age 67 i.e. past 66 which is my retirement age. Currently on standard amount for daily living and enhanced amount for mobility. Also does esa still exist if do not manage to work up until age 66. Will it affect pip if I do not work up until age 66.

Thank you

Jane

Hi Jane52,
Pip can continue to be paid after retirement age. It is not means tested in any way. However, the mobility award 'freezes' after pension age- ths means you can't get a new award or upgraded award of mobility after you reach state pension age. However I note that you have enhanced mobility award already, so this should not be a problem. Be aware that if either you ask for a review or DWP conduct a review then if DWP reduce or remove your existing mobility award you will need to appeal this as otherwise you won't be able to get the mobility component paid.
If you need to retire early you can claim various sickness benefits. Means tested ESA is no longer available for new claimants, but you can claim Universal credit which has a similar work capability assessment
Or alternatively you could claim Contributions ESA, if you have sufficient NI contributions.
I think it would be a good idea to get proper benefits advice from a local advice centre to work out what benefits could be payable, both now and post retirement age Additionally you may widest to contact the Pensions Service to confirm your pension amount as thus can help with future financial planning. Here's the link

I hope this helps.

Thank you LL26
That is a most helpful reply. I would be in a position to claim Contributions ESA were I unable to work until age 66, so good to know that still exists. How do I search for an advice centre worker. Other than Citizens Advice, not sure where to look?
Thank you
