I’ll health retired was created by Souter
I retire in l approxx 4 months but due to I’ll health my Gp has given me a sick line until 8th November ( 1 retire on 9 November) my employer which is mandatory will give me 3 months full pay and any AL I am owed.
My question is do I give the sick line to the benefit agency or keep it until I retire,
I am not sure if I can apply for ESA or UC , I also receive the new Disability ( Scotland)
I may not be able to apply as I have received 3 months pay.
Thanks for your help.!

Just to clarify you are talking about taking an Occupational Pension and not the State Pension.

You can apply for New Style ESA now, you will need to supply your Fit Note to the DWP with the application, you can do this online. See

www.gov.uk/send-fit-note

You can also apply for UC, however, your current wages will be taken into account in calculating what you might receive and this may prevent a claim you actually making that immediate claim. Be aware, any NS ESA you receive will also be deducted £ for £.

Put your information into one of the online benefit calculators to see if you can.

www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators

Once your wages stop then your pension will also reduce how much UC you can receive. There are also limits on the amount of savings and assets you can have, if you have over £6000 then there will be a deduction from your UC, more than £16,000 and you cannot claim UC.

Hi Souter

If you are in receipt of state pension then you will not be able to claim NS ESA.
