My wife as my carer was created by Musicman01
Hi again and thanks everyone here for your excellent advice. I have another question. At the moment I am at the assessment stage of NS ESA and UC and have returned my UC50 form using the paid for guides on this great site. I already receive PIP for daily living and mobility at standard rate. If my wife became my carer(she does everything for me and cares more than 35 hours) what would I gain or lose if my wife receives carers allowance? Thanks again for any help.

In both cases the CA is payable,

For the NS ESA there is no impact.

For UC the CA will be treated as Other Income and deducted £ for £ from your CA but you may also qualify for the Carers Element.

The other advantage for your wife is that she would receive Class 1 NI Credits that count towards the State Pension and Contribution Based Benefits.

An alternative is for her to claim Carers Credit, there is no payment associated with this and therefore no deduction, the requirement is only 20 hours of care a week but it does pay Class 3 NI Contributions that count towards the State Pension.
