Notice of Compliance Telephone Interview Contribution ESA

Hi everyone

I hope someone can help me as this is sending my anxiety all over the place!
I received a Notice of Compliance letter for a telephone interview, which is next week. I’m currently receiving Contribution based ESA and I've been in the Support group since 2018 after losing my job due to mental health and physical problems. This is the only benefit I claim. This is my first contact with them since then. I spoke to the compliance officer who said I need to have my bank statements ready for the interview. I’m reading all sorts online, I feel so scared I’m shaking. What does this interview involve? What could have triggered this?

How far back in statements can they go or do I need to go because it’s next week?
Do I need to tell them I have a PayPal account? (it’s used to shop online only)

Also read that you need to declare if you have any gaming accounts like lottery etc is this true?

On Contribution ESA would I be questioned about my savings? As I thought I could have savings, is there a limit?

I live with my mum and she pays money into my account for food shopping and she has in the past paid a larger amount into my account for me to buy her non-food things/pay certain bills for the house. Would DWP have an issue with this?

I am also listed as a carer and next of kin for my mum with the GP as they need a point of contact for her, would they have a problem with that?

Sorry for all the questions I’m just panicking and despairing.

Hi DS901,

It is very unusual for anyone on Contributions Based ESA to have a compliance interview relating to savings.
Do you also get Carer's Allowance?
I would phone ESA and ask them to check on their CIS Searchlight computer system for what Benefits you are actually receiving. Ask them if you are getting an Income Based Benefit.

Hi David
Thanks for your reply, I don't claim carers allowance, I managed to dig up some letters one mentions The ESA payment is based on my National Insurance Contributions records and I would receive extra money because of Disability Income Guarantee and also states No income will be taken off ESA.

Hi DS901,

My guess is that you have been given an ESA top up of the Disability Income Guarantee which is a means tested top up. I don't know how this has come about though it is standard for claimants who qualify and don't have saving over the threshold ( for means tested Benefits ). So if you have savings over £6000 your Benefits are reduced pro rata. However if your savings were to be above £16,000 you should not get the ESA top up. The DWP do make mistakes with this so maybe that is what the Compliance interview is about. Is there a phone number on the Compliance interview letter ?

Yes, I called the officer before posting here, they just said have my bank statements ready. It looks like the Disability Income Guarantee was removed correctly back in 2019, when I informed them of a compensation sum that I’d be receiving from my former employment. So it’s just Contribution ESA Support Group (£128.45 in April 2019 currently £159.05) that I get which I assume is not means tested, so I can have savings over the £16000 threshold . So I just want to know what to expect, how to prepare because this isn’t helping my conditions.
