Old PIP claim

Old PIP claim was created by s987
Hi, I applied for PIP a couple of years ago based on the fact I have had mental health issues for years (severe depression, anxiety and social anxiety). I completed the assessment and waited for a reply to tell me whether or not my claim was successful, but never heard back.

Because of being on ESA at the time, I was very worried about phoning DWP to remind them about my claim, because I thought it could affect my ESA. Should I now phone to ask about the PIP claim? I was going to phone them to start a new claim, but was concerned it might override the old one and I wouldn't be awarded backpayments, if it was the case that I was awarded PIP. I know it's probably unlikely, but they didn't let me know.

Also, if you are turned down for PIP, can you claim again?

Thanks for reading

Hi s987

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.

You need to contact DWP to see what has happened to your claim, can you remember when you had the assessment, did you ask for a copy of the assessors report?

DWP may have sent you a refusal letter but you are out of time to request a MR usually you have a max time of 13 months, you may need to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation; advicelocal.uk

Yes you can apply again.

If you have a new condition or your condition has deteriorated then you can apply for a new claim, remember you have to have a condition for 3 months before you claim and then ongoing for 9 months or more.
