Hello,
I've been down the rabbit hole for what seems like months, but am none the wiser.

My hubby and I lost three family members in the space of seven months [not relevant but its was my Mum, Father in Law and then Mother in Law] both the ladies finances were minimal so no problem sorting that. But my Father in Law has a will with bequests to several family members, including my husband. It is complex with quite a few beneficiaries, one still missing and can't be found, so still ongoing with the Executors.

My health issues are long term from 1990's and have deteriorated over the past decade, resulting in a severe decline in my mobility.
We have been on a multitude of housing lists, some with high priority, even going as far as being prepared to move across the country. Our house is unadaptable and my wheelchair won't fit through doors or have enough space to turn.

It has been suggested we may be able to find a little place that is suitable to purchase or adapt with the inheritance, when we finally receive it.
But this has us panicking that we would lose all our benefits, it is the only income we have.

Given our situation would it still be considered that trying to buy a home would be deprivation of capital?

Any words of wisdom at all would be much appreciated. 😟

Hi Caledoniansmurf,

Each case of deprivation of capital is decided on its own merits. One of the best guides I have seen is written by Fiona Seymour from Citizens Advice. It is worth having a read first and then coming back with your questions.
