Hi I saw in my most recent email from you that the Government is aiming to migrate all ESA claimants by the end of 2026. My husband who receives IR ESA (support group) reaches state pension age on 10/11/2026. Are we still going to be migrated for a short time or are they likely to leave us to change from ESA to Pension/pension credit in November 26? Thank you.

Hi Julie-Anne,

At present I have no idea about the phasing upto 2026. The announcement was made recently in the Budget. I would keep an eye on the News section of the BenefitsandWork website.

I think there are a few of us on the forum who are nearing state retirement age and would dearly like to know if we will forced to migrate to UC. Bearing in mind we can apply for our pension 4 months before we officially become senior citizens, I would hope we would be safe once we have actually applied.
Anywhere I can check if there is actual legislation on this please David?

Thank you.

Hi Gaddy,

I think the best option whilst waiting for news on this subject is to keep an eye on the News section of the BenefitsandWork website.

As you can see from the following guide (just for couples ) which runs into 16 pages, it is a complex issue.
