I have been informed that my claim for New Style ESA is going live today and being backdated to April. This lump sum is due to be paid next week. Will UC then say I owe them the exact amount that i am to receive?
I have also been told that in a couple of weeks I will be put in the support group and this will also be backdated to April as had my wca decision 2 days before I made the claim for ESA. So will this also then be demanded from UC.
Seems a very backward way of doing things..
I haven't been able to find any new information regarding this subject.
There is no easement regarding overpayments due to official error with Universal Credit as there is with Legacy Benefits. So if at the time the ESA would have been deducted from the UC then a lump sum which is made up of backdated ESA would need to be taken into account. This means that you need to be prepared to repay some of the lump sum to the DWP. But you will be entitled to the additional payment of the UC LCWRA element.
