Hiya, I'm looking for some advice on moving over to UC from ESA.
I've contacted a solicitor to support a less hassle move-over to UC and to help prevent unnecessary distress and seizures etc.
The move is in process but there are a few things I don't understand.
I didn't receive my usual ESA payment today. I know I'm able to apply for an advanced payment but I'd like to try and avoid this and live off a few hundred pounds savings I have.
I suspect it will be later, as the solicitor is currently having difficulties taking over the migration, but UC has said I'll receive a payment by the 4th of December.
Will the money be backdated to today's date or will I lose out and the payments start from the 4th onwards?

I'm also not sure what I need to do in terms of housing benefits and applying for a reduction in council tax.
The dates and what they're trying to explain in terms of housing benefits seem really unclear to me but it looks like it's just a straightforward move over where the money will just go directly to my landlord.

When I filled out the UC claim form it said I would need to apply for a reduction in housing tax but I'm not sure what to do. A Google search is taking me to a city council calculator.

Any direction, advice and clarity on what I should expect would help.

Thanks, Sasha.

Hi SashaJ,

Yes your UC payment on the 4 December will be for the previous 30 days.
I can't say if UC will pay your Housing Costs direct to the landlord. You will need to phone the Migration helpline given in your Migration letter.
You will need to contact your Local Authority and if phoning ask for the Council Tax Reduction Scheme. You can inform them of the start date of your new UC claim. You can also use the Benefits calculator Entitledto.co.uk to give you an idea of your Council Tax bill.
If your solicitor is unavailable you could try phoning the Citizens Advice Help to Claim phone number given on page 2 of your Managed Migration letter.
Let me know how you get on.

David

I was hoping I'd be able to do it on my own online so I don't have to manage so much anxiety. I'll ask my son if he can make any sense of it all.
Thanks
