Maintaining confidentiality during medical assessments?

I am currently having my ESA re-assessed (although I am hoping to get back to work ASAP if I'm up to it), and I have recently put a claim in for PIP, so am expecting to have a medical in the near future.

Does anyone have any advice for getting jobcentre/assessment staff to respect your medical confidentiality?

I live with a relative whom I do not get on with and who knows very little about my medical problems. But jobcentre staff always think that because I live with a relative, they must be my carer. Last time I had a WCA the assessor tried to rearrange the assessment and insist that I bring along some non-existant carer to help me.

I appreciate that taking someone along to these appointments for moral support can be helpful, but I am rather lacking in supportive friends/family and I am very sensitive about my medical conditions.

Thanks.

Hi steve30,

I would write a letter detailing what you have just told me and post it to your local Jobcentre making the letter for the attention of the Jobcentre Manager. If you would rather not post it you could always drop the letter in.
