Applying for credits only ESA - problem filling online form was created by xerox
I am applying for my son who is receipt of PIP for credits only ESA with a view to migrating to UC at some point in the future. He makes about £5000 p/a buying and selling on eBay with our assistance.
When filling the form you get to a point where it asks about income but this only applies to a person getting a regular amount. This does not fit what my son is doing. I called CAB who advised rung up Job Centre Plus to get a paper form to fill in as she said you can add notes on this which you can't do online but she seemed a bit vague.
Is this something I should do?
Do I have to inform DWP that my son is doing this kind of 'work' since his health hasn't changed since the award and he can only do it with our help.
Many thanks

Hi xerox,
I assume you have paused your online application for Credits Only ESA. If you resume where you left off can you tell me what exactly is the question about income you refer to ?

Hi David
No, I abandoned it - I will have to start again. I don't know how to pause it to come back to
This is the page we're having difficulty on - where it says:
Earnings
How often are you paid by vintagezenit?
Daily
Weekly
Every 2 weeks
Every 4 weeks
Monthly
Quarterly
Every 6 months
Annually
How much was your last payment from vintagezenit?
This is the exact amount that was paid into your bank account.
He isn't 'paid' since he buys and sells on ebay. At the end of a year he will have made 5000 profit probably. So how to fill in this page?
And then a few pages on they ask when you want to claim ESA from - do I put in today's date? And then it asks - what's the date you want to claim until - do I say, I don't know?
Then a few pages later it asks for bank details - but we're not applying for any income just credits. So do I still put in bank details?
It's all rather confusing.
We're concerned that putting in a credits only ESA claim will start DWP sniffing around what our son is doing since he's on PIP. We're not hiding anything - he is still very ill and actually iller than his PIP award made out since he gets the lower daily care but needs a LOT more care than that (we just didn't have the heart to appeal). But we don't want to cause our son any more stress since he is still quite young (19) and just about coping with being disabled long-term. I wonder if the DWP will start to question his PIP if he is now 'working' on his own little business?
Thanks so much for any help/advice

Hi xerox,
The DWP have a Compliance Team who check Benefits claims. But they don't check the claims where having savings/capital is not a material issue. I suppose you have informed HMRC of the work as they may expect some sort of notification for tax purposes. PIP don't need to be informed as long as there hasn't been a significant change in his health condition.
You could just put the £5000 as annual earnings as it's the profit figure that is required.
There is no harm in putting in the bank details.
As far as dates are concerned you could input today's date and a random date 3 years into the future.
If there is a notes section at the end of the form you could also write a brief explanation.

Thanks David
Yes, HMRC have been informed and we are doing his tax return though no tax of course to be paid.
Glad I don't need to inform PIP - he's far iller than they have assessed him anyway.
Thanks again for your help - very much appreciated!.
