Hi, I have recently had to do manage migration to Uc, it has been extremely stressful and every day another letter comes through the post making my anxiety through the roof!
I wasn't aware I was getting any contributory ESA thought it was only income based, but have received a letter saying jobcentre will be contacting me to book an appointment that I MUST attend with a work coach to continue getting new style ESA? I was in support group with severe disability? What does this mean? Also says at interview I will be asked how illness/disability affects me and to provide medical evidence?
Why? This is not ESA work capability assessment, it is an interview with jobcentre work coach? I am too ill to attend in person and to be looking for evidence, what can I do??

Hi Maggie,

Is there anyone that can give you personal Benefits advice? Such as local Citizens Advice or the Financial Inclusion officer of a Housing Association or Community Money Advice.
I expect you were getting both Contributions Based ESA and Income Based ESA ( as a top up ) prior to UC
Migration.
Now with UC all your Contributions Based ESA will be deducted from your UC monthly payment and your old Contributions Based ESA will be known as New Style ESA which is basically the same thing.
So you need independent advice as to whether it's still worth you claiming ESA.

Everyone has to agree a Claimant Commitment with this New Style ESA but you should be able to do it over the phone. You don't need any medical evidence. So they are making mistakes.
Do you know how to send a UC Journal message to your Work Coach? I would send a message stating that you are too unwell to attend the Jobcentre to agree your commitments and if the interview is not changed you will make a complaint to the District Manager.

Let me know how you get on.

David
