Esa to Uc IR top up not yet decided

I have a question. I am on ESA in a Support Group. I had been on a Contribution based Ince 2018. Never claimed IR TOP UP even though I was probably entiteled to it. In July I had applied for IR TOP UP and my award review and disability premiums. They asked me to send them my financial statements etc so they make a decision.

The problem I have is that ESA is taking enormous amounts of time to make a decision and I cant get through to anyine there on the phone.

I now as everyone else is going to need to make a claim for Universal Credit and Esa still has not decided if I am entiteled to a top up or not. (And backpayment)

I worry that once I make a claim for Universal Credit, it will become New Style Esa and they will tell me that they don't owe me anything anymore. I would loose money for many years.

They simply are not returning my queries and calls and I need to claim UC for my rent. Someone said that it would be recalculated if decision was made after I applied for UC but I'm not so sure of that. Any ideas?

Hi Agis,

If you cannot get through to the ESA section via the phone I would suggest a visit to your local Jobcentre. Explain the situation and they have various methods of internal communication with ESA to move the log jam.

If you were to receive a UC Migration Letter you will find that the Citizens Advice Help to Claim service is very proactive in sorting out the issues.

Hello there, I had been to the job centre and they told me that there is nothing that they can do at all. Additionally she said that even if I'm on ESA IN Support Group and I claim Universal Credit I will have a coach and and disability advisor and I will have to look for work. Is this true?

Hi Agis,

They are giving you false information. I think you need to make a complaint to the Jobcentre area manager. If you tell me the County that you live in I can find the name of the manager for the complaint.

David its Stratford, London Job Centre. Just to tell you that I have not gone there yet to make a claim for Universal Credit. I only went there looking for advice. I had already called Citizens advice and they told me that the advice is wrong.

Hi Agis,

The District manager for Stratford is Rizwan Ahmad. You can write a complaint about the delays with ESA and also the false advice given at the Jobcentre. You can write it in biro if you wish, on plain paper giving your National Insurance number, your name and address.
Write on the envelope For the Attention of Rizwan Ahmad, Jobcentre District Manager. You can either drop the letter into a local Jobcentre or post it to the local Jobcentre.
Let me know how you get on.
