UC & Self employment - sickness? was created by sas401
Just been to self employment interview for the migration of wtc to uc. I have come away with more worries and questions. I am a carer and disabled myself so not subject to the minimum floor or gainfully self employ etc
I understand i have to submit accounts each month but my query is what happens if i have a bad state of illness that falls when i am due to have accounts due to be done? How long past the date would i have before they cancel a claim? Also what happens if i wanted to be away on holiday during that date range?

Hi sas401,
You don't have to submit accounts each month.
You just need to tell UC your profit from self employed work. UC has made this simple through by passing HMRC standard accounting practice and using a cash in / cash out basis for working out monthly profit.
You should have been given a leaflet by the Work Coach instructing you on how to do this.
UC being " digital by default " means that even if you are on holiday anywhere in the world you can send Journal messages via your UC account.
Hope this helps,
David

Thankyou david but unfortunatly doesnt allay my fears. When i get ill, I am not able to focus on anything let alone begin to start to work out my incomings and outgoings. It is effectively doing a set of accounts each month which for me is a lot of stress and work. If there is no allowance for illness/caring breaks, then i may have to reassess if i can honestly continue with the small business

Hi sas401,
If you are unable to work for a month due to illness you just report zero profit to UC.
As you are self employed you still need to report to the HMRC for income tax purposes regardless of illness.
