On behalf of my daughter who I am help through this transition. She has received today in her journal notification that a telephone interview has been arranged on Wednesday 29th Jan with a work coach. She was moved to the ESA support group in 2019 and we thought it was a direct transfer to UC. Why is she being asked to agree to commitments with a work coach? We unfortunately we did not make an entry in the journal about the law as we just didn't know how to do that! Advice please.
This is happening to a lot of people at present. When you originally claimed ESA many years ago you are considered for Contribution Based ESA as well as Income Based ESA. So many people are in receipt of both Contributions Based ESA and Income Based as a top up. You cannot get the premiums with Contributions Based ESA. Hence the point of the Income Based top up. With Managed Migration Income Based ESA disappears to be replaced by UC and the Conts Based ESA becomes New Style ESA which is basically the same thing. However everyone on New Style ESA has to agree a claimant commitment which for your daughter just means agreeing to report any changes to the DWP. She can send a UC Journal message asking for a phone interview which a lot of our members have chosen.
