MY PARTNER MIGRATION TO UC ESA WILL WCA. BE. COMPULSORY

Apologies this has been dealt with elsewhere but I have Parkinsons which limits my capacity to search endlessly…

My partner has been on `PIP with ESA since she was a teenager, she his currently receiving £318 every 2 weeks and is in a Support group.

since the death of her partner 2 years ago she's been living with her parents both in their late 70's early 80's. They are all very concerned about the change to the payment system and have asked me as her new partner to make sure we know what the change might involve for my partner. There is great concern that she might have to go for a WCA interiview as she finds any such interaction very profoundly disturbing and they can affect her mental health for months in advance.

So my question is whether or not a WCA assessment is likely or not, if yes, then will this be in person or on the phone - or is there an option for her to supply written answers as per the ESA50 form she completed in 2018.

We are all concerned about any possible impact on her status of her having a relattionship with me and change of address. in order for her to get better medical support I registered with my gp in Camden, to do this I gave my address, but we wonder if it might be better to keep her address the same in case the change triggers some new angle of questioning from the DwP.

I understand that in fact gp's are not allowed to bar people from addresses outside their natural catchment area so maybe the simpest thing to do is to change her address with the gp back to her home address.

We would all be very grateful; for your advice on these questions,,

Thank you

Nick

Hi Nickrob

If you and your new partner start living together or the DWP treat as living together there will be changes to your Benefits. Does she receive Contributions Based ESA? Does she receive Disability Premiums?
The DWP writes to a GP involved in disability Benefit cases so having different addresses would lead to an investigation.

Thanks David , the answer is no to all your questions.
As her mother has health issues she’ll be living at home a lot of the time.

I have Parkinson’s disease and receive Attendance Allowance- my partner will be caring for me on an ad hoc basis as most of the time i don’t med care.

Given this information is there anything else you can tell me ?

Hi Nickrob

Looking back at your original post, if you say that she is living at your address when she is not you are going to cause all sorts of problems.
You can be a couple and live apart and the DWP should not reduce your Benefits and you should both be treated as single people.
As for the next WCA, anecdotally the opinion is that a Support Group claimant is unlikely to be reviewed in the next couple of years. Look at the BenefitsandWork news section on or after the 26 March when an announcement on Benefits changes is expected.
