Migration ESA to UB a question I can't find an answer to was created by laylaa
Hi
My daughter has received her migration notice and we're preparing to sit down and work through the process. Our question is this - she has been in the ESA Support Group for almost 20 years and there is no prospect of her ever being able to work. We understand that the law requires she goes straight into the LCWRA group for UC, but what we don't know is whether she will then need to complete a UC50 form? If anybody can throw any light on what actually happens with migration it would be hugely appreciated. Should we expect her to need to do any phone interviews?
Thanks so much!

Hi laylaa
If or when your daughter receives a UC50 it will have nothing to do with UC Managed Migration. Did you get a " prognosis " from the DWP regarding the period until the next WCA medical? The UC50 is the first stage of the WCA process.
You can get help with Managed Migration from Citizens Advice Help to Claim and their phone number should be on page 2 of your Migration letter. Here is review of the service from another Forum member--

Have you thought of being your daughter's appointee or do you have LPA ?
Let me know how you get on.

Thanks David. She doesn't have medicals, she has severe ME and has been housebound and largely bedbound since she was 16. She's mainly concerned about whether this migration turns out to be a sort of new application and needing detailed explanations of everything. Or is it just what it appears, a hopefully smooth transfer from ESA to UC under the preexisting terms. She has always been in the support group and hasn't needed medical notes since she was on IB 20 years ago. Thanks for the link, we'll look at that.

Hi David, sorry, a follow-up question. I looked at the link you posted and they talk about being disabled and not able to be going to the Job Centre and requesting a phone interview or that they may insist on a home visit.... what is that for? Is that something we should be worried about?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi laylaa
Is your daughter able to talk to a Universal Credit agent over the phone? If not you may consider becoming your daughter's appointee but that usually entails a home visit by the DWP primarily to speak to you.
The phone interview takes less than 10 minutes and is to agree the claimant commitment.

Hi,yes on a 'good' day she should be able to talk briefly on the phone, so if its only for the commitment hopefully that will be OK. I was long ago appointed by her in times of need but she wants to try and do this on her own now. Obviously we're awfully worried about the threats to LCWRA, as she is far too ill to sit up most of the time, so the idea of any kind of work is ludicrous. But that is another BIG conversation isn't it!!
For now I just hope the migration will go smoothly. She's still on DLA so we haven't yet had to navigate the PIP nightmare.
Thank you
