IR ESA to UC was created by Navigator
Hi all,

I have just received my dreaded UC Migration letter, which for some reason arrived a week after the date on it so I am already a week less out of the 3 months allowed.

Having just carried out a calculation on Turn 2 Us website it states that my Old style benefits total, Will be exactly the same under UC? And yet under the UC section for deductions their is a £333.10 deduction? Will this deduction be removed at the end of the transitional allowed period so I will therefore be worse off?

Furthermore No mention is made in relation to Council Tax, which I receive 100% discount. I have been told to contact my local council about this element, but it seems strange if they pay it already for me to have to tell them to pay it because of UC?

My final amount of benefit includes 3 elements. UC - severe Disability Payment, and PIP. I thought PIP was not included in and calculations as it is not means tested? It also states that I might have to apply for ESA also, Does this mean I will end up having to fill in a UC 50 form and a new ESA 50 form as no mention is made of any forms to be filled in during or after the UC transitional period.

And advice appreciated as always, just overwhelmed by it all once again, and DWP's failure to respond to my ESA 50 form submitted back in Dec 2023, when it should have been self evident, that I should be reassessed as being eligible for the Support group, and yet I have remained in the Work activity group.

Kind regards

Hi Navigator

I think the best thing you can do to get some answers is to use the Citizens Advice Help to Claim service and their phone number is on page 2 of your Migration letter. Have a read of the recommendation from our Forum member Via -
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/kunena/10-dla-...aged-migration-to-uc

Councils throughout the country are allowed to treat UC differently for Council Tax purposes. So you need to phone them when you get your first UC payment.

As you are still in the WRAG group you will be placed in the UC LCW group which unfortunately means you will be contacted by a Work Coach wishing to talk about work preparation.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi David thanks for your reply,

Just a quick question if I may.

When you migrate over to UC do you automatically get sent a UC50 to fill out or do they use the existing IR ESA 50, and the PIP information to base your claim on?

Kind regards

Hi Navigator

You should be placed in the LCW group, if you were placed in the WRAG before April 2017 then you should be eligible for the extra premium £156.11 pm.

PIP is ignored for UC, you will at some stage be sent a UC50 form to review your claim, this form is the same as ESA50 apart from the name.
