Hello fellow friends,

I am writing on behalf of another who has asked for my advice.

His wife had a catastrophic fall earlier in the year and is still hospitalised to date. His question was as follows; Will her PIP be stopped because she is in hospital? He has advised DWP of this fact but is worried her PIP entitlement will stop and her Motability vehicle seized.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Holysmoke

PIP should stop after 28 consecutive days of someone being in hospital. If this applies to your friend's wife and this has not happened, the husband needs to ring and check, or he could find that they owe a massive overpayment. And if there has been an overpayment, the DWP will claw it back.

I know you've said he informed the DWP about his wife's admission, but he may not have told them that she is still there, and so her PIP has continued. This will probably seem scary, but he shouldn't leave it without knowing exactly where they stand.
