UC things to tell us about - backdated payment

Hello,

ffor ESA to UC migration, there is a question about lump sums.

How far back are we expected to go with these?

There is a lump sum for an accident from 2021 - does this need to be mentioned and will it affect the claim? It was around £6800.

This would have been raised at the time - I believe CRU know about it as we get letters every year from them with nothing to owe.

Thanks again

Hi Idean64

Which means tested Benefits have you been receiving this year--Housing Benefit or Income Based ESA or Council Tax Reduction? How do they treat the lump sum?

Hi David.

Received all 3. They haven’t mentioned anything as far as I know. We get the CRU letter each year stating 0 owed.

Hi Idean64

As the lump sum you mention was over £5000 it is most likely that it will be disregarded for the duration of your new UC claim.

Great, and do I still need to put it on my claim given it was long ago and I assume DWP are already aware of it?

Hi Idean64

You will need to check your UC statements that are posted to your UC account 4 days prior to payment day. If you are getting deductions for having savings over £6000 then they have made a mistake and you will need to chase it up. Let us know so that we can help.
