I'll health retirement was created by Janet Tubb
Hi!

I hope this is ok to ask about this here as I don't really know where else to seek help! I was a teacher in my former life(!!!) I have RA FM n HT amongst other things... Referrals for ME n menieres going thru too! So I'm not a well girlie n have indefinite high rate DLA for care n mob, IB since around 2004 and stopped teaching full time around that time too! My husband ran off with my carer at Xmas so I get income support n every other poss benefit I can since he left me with our 5 & 7 year old to look after.

In May last year I applied for I'll health retirement from Teaching as there is no way I'll ever be well enough to work again never mind teach! The response was no on the premise that there may one day be a cure! How infuriating! What a stupid thing to say! I've only just felt up to appealing so am going to do so but I wondered if there's any help out there like there is here for DLA ESA claims etc?

Does anyone have any advice please or could help me with an advocate or anything?

Cheers,
jan

If I've understood your post correctly you're asking if you can get help with your appeal regarding your ill health retirement. If so then you could contact the Community Legal Advice service on 0845 345 4 345 or contact your local CAB with your concerns.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Jan,

Regretfully, we cannot give advice on ill-health retirement as none of the moderators are qualified in this field.

I note that Gareth has advised you to contact Community Legal Advice or your local CAB who may be able to help.

However, are you not a member of one the teachers trade unions such as the National Union of Teachers. If so they should be able to help you pursue a claim for ill-health retirement. Most unions will do so even if you're no longer a current member.

Good luck.

Pat

Hi Janet, sorry to read you are poorly :(

Will you be going thro' LGPF? If so they have a lot of information of how to claim
Local Govt Pension Scheme

You may also find The Pensions Advisory Service helpful.(TPAS)www.thepensionsadvisoryservice.org.uk

Good luck :)

Hi Janet
Sorry to hear you are in such a poor state of health. I also claimed Ill Health Teachers Pension and eventually won on 2nd appeal. If there is any way of contacting each other privately, I would be happy to share my experience in case it would help. Perhaps someone could advise on how we do this.
Take care
Wendy
